What to Eat Right Before Bed Time
If you are looking for food that helps you fall asleep, then there are a few options available to you. If you are looking for something that will help you lose weight, there are a few things that can help in that department too. In this healthy eating blog, we look at a few of the foods that are good to eat just before bedtime.
Complex carbs often induce sleepiness. A good choice would be air popped popcorn. You get a little over 4 grams of starches from one cup of popcorn and popcorn goes a long way to help you curb the desire to snack.
What you want to avoid are heavy starches such as potatoes. These take a long time to digest, and you want to consider the health-related causes of late night snacking. For many of us that means acid reflux. Lighter carbs work well, and many of them digest quickly.
Teas are also good just before bed. A nice mellow decaffeinated tea like Chamomile is an excellent bed-time snack. Chamomile is known to relax, and the warm tea gets your body into the pre-sleep mode.
Again, what you want to avoid is caffeinated beverages because those amp up your body and pushes away sleep. Another thing to avoid is sugars and chocolate that has caffeine in it.
The benefit of drinking tea before bed is that it digests quickly, so you reduce the risk of acid reflux. Another healthy choice for reducing acid reflux is to sleep on your left side. If you sleep on your right side, acid from your stomach can drain into your esophagus and cause tissue irritation.
