Add Some Turmeric to Your Dishes to Get Great Results

Fresh Turmeric in a Wooden Spoon

Turmeric is an Indian spice that is fast becoming popular in other countries and it is not hard to see why. This pungent powder has anti-inflammatory properties and is also rich in antioxidants. What is more, it also decreases your risk of getting cancer, improves cognitive function, blood sugar function and kidney performance and can alleviate symptoms of certain digestive disorders and some types of arthritis.

How to Use Tumeric in Foods

Fortunately, turmeric is a versatile spice that can be added to many different types of foods. You can add it to boiling rice to give it a yellow color, sprinkle some on scrambled eggs or use it to flavor stir-fried meat, vegetables and noodles. You can also add it to meat marinades. If you enjoy cooking Indian food, be sure to add it to curries, fried cabbage, beans, lentils or biriyani.

At the same time, turmeric is not just for savory dishes. You can add it to sautéed apples or even throw some in the blender to make a homemade smoothie. If you choose the latter option, be aware that turmeric tastes best with orange, pink and red fruits and vegetables.

Doesn't Require Large Quantities for Health Benefits

If you are not familiar with this particular spice, try buying some at a local supermarket or Indian store and adding small amounts to various dishes. Experiment with different recipes to see which ones taste best when turmeric is added. You do not need to eat large quantities of this particular spice in order to benefit from all it has to offer; in fact, even just 50 milligrams of turmeric eaten over the course of a few months can offer health benefits you won't want to miss out on.

MRC of Vancouver started me going in my attempt to loose 30 years of weight gain!! I have been using their program for about 18 months and have actually lost 30 pounds. I have changed the way I eat. I've learned what foods are best for ME. By analyzing my DNA and hormones, they helped me learn to eat what was right for me. I have "tweeked" my purchases and preparation of food to make eating healthy and still fun for me. I eat lots of veggies and salads and include a healthy diet of protein. These are very satisfying. Do I "cheat" now and then? Yes, but I don't like how I feel after eating sugar and lots of carbs so I return to my good foods quickly and continue to see my weight drop. I walk my little dog four times a day and have a part-time job that allows me a lot of movement. I feel so healthy and wonderful. It's easy to continue to eat and live a more healthy lifestyle! When I confessed about eating the wrong "foods", the gals simply encouraged me and gave me fresh ideas to satisfy my taste buds. I always felt I could be honest during my consultations with no fear of being lectured! I plan to continue until I reach my desired weight. I expect to reach my goal by 2017. After I reach my weight goal, I plan to remain in good health with my new found healthy way of eating the calories I need to maintain my proper weight. My Dr. is very pleased at my progress. She wondered how I have lost 30 pounds.
