The Secret to Loving YOURSELF

Posted February 12, 2014 by Blair McLain | CATEGORY General Health

Love yourself photo“You’re so stupid!” “You’re never going to achieve that, you should just give up!” “I can’t believe you did that, you ruined everything!” Would you let your best friend, spouse or children speak to you like this? Of course not! Then, why on earth do we talk to ourselves like this?!? We are all guilty of shaming ourselves in the privacy of our own minds (or maybe even out loud for others to hear!); it’s this type of “negative self-talk” that gets us into trouble and sets us up for not only feeling badly about ourselves but also failing to meet our goals.

The power of NO MORE!

Posted November 25, 2013 by Melissa White | CATEGORY Weight Loss

woman selecting produce in storeAhh… Thanksgiving, many people’s favorite holiday.  I have heard the chatter, and mostly I hear “I can’t wait to eat or I am eating as much as I want."   I watch them space out as if imagining the turkey coma already.   Hmm, what if people changed what they told themselves and imagined about Thanksgiving.  Half the battle is in our head anyway, so let’s make a winning battle.  Instead of telling ourselves that we are going to eat whatever we want, as much as we want and visualize ourselves popping, loosening a belt loop, unbuttoning our pant’s or wearing elastic in preparation, what would happen if we imagined something different?

Halloween - My Scary Truth

Posted October 23, 2013 by Heather Gaither | CATEGORY Weight Loss

Halloween Blog - eating healthyI love costumes and love to watch my 5 year old morph into character, right now he is Optimus  Prime (who he claims is the most powerful of “all”). He is constantly evaluating which character is the most powerful, who could win against the other, and who has the best skills. This I love. What I don’t  love is the crappy candy, the Stitch like crazy he gets after eating all that sugar, and the fact that he will sell our car for a single miniature size bar.

Pumpkin Pie Yumminess photoPumpkin obsession is in full gear and it seems these days we've added pumpkin to everything imaginable. Along with our pumpkin lattes and pumpkin treats comes the dreaded pumpkin bum, yup the more pumpkin treats I try the more I begin to resemble a pumpkin. What's a girl to do? Here are some great ideas for enjoying the flavor of pumpkin while maintaining your new not-so-pumpkin figure:

Is your body's check engine light on?

Posted September 3, 2013 by Heather Gaither | CATEGORY General Health

check engine light photoMy low gas light was on in may car today, yes it happens frequently, and I began to think about how easy it is to care for our car and how much better we often treat our car than our own human body. At first that sounds absurb but think about it, when your car's 'Check Engine Light' goes off you take her immediately to the mechanic for service, when the low gas light appear you stop at the gas station. In addition to the warning lights, your cars gets an oil change every 5,000 miles, even when the car appears to be running oil change is given as  preventative care. But what about our BODY?!? Our lights go off all the time- fatigue, headache, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc....sometimes our "check engine lights' are blaring and honking, and we do NOTHING at all.

To make matters worse, you can trade your car in for a new one, but this is the only body you will ever have, if we don't treat it well we cannot ask for a new one. Maybe we should all start paying more attention to our body's warning signals, learn to understand what the warning lights are, so we can quickly get the attention needed. I know that my typical warning lights, which I often ignore, are muscle pain (stress), fatigue (not getting restful sleep), and low energy (not eating properly or taking my vitamins regularly)...what are your warning lights? Let's decide today that will treat our bodies BETTER than we treat our cars-- they deserve that.
